Advanced Component Testing’s Latest ISO 17025 Accreditation Covers Extended AS6171 Methods

RONKONKOMA, NY:  February 13, 2019Advanced Component Testing (ACT) has upgraded its ISO 17025 accreditation to incorporate the full suite of AS6171 test methods, including SEM analysis. This two-year certification is a result of an audit by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) late last year during which ACT staff demonstrated their ability to perform 13 different categories of tests to AS6171, AS6081, MIL STD and IDEA-STD-1010B test methods.

As per the ISO/IEC 17025 certificate, Advanced Component Testing has proven competent to perform detection of suspect/counterfeit parts to AS6171 and AS6081 methods. This includes the process of inspected the surface texture of a device with a high powered scanning electron microscope (SEM). Relatively few test houses are equipped to perform SEM analysis and thus most other laboratories outsource this requirement.

ACT Director of Operations, Mike Zambito, noted that ACT has “made the investments in training and equipment we needed to early on so that we would be ready to fully support our mil-aero customers’ AS6171 compliance requirements from the onset. Our ability to execute such a comprehensive range of inspections and tests at our own facility enables us not only to ensure that each test meets our high standards but also to offer these services at a better rate.”

Although the AS6171 standard was released over two years ago, organizations are just beginning to require adherence to its test methods. Whether or not an organization specifically requires this certification, the fact that Advanced Component Testing has earned it is a key indicator that the facility actually possesses the expertise to fully comply with customers’ internal and flow down requirements.
